I just want you to know that you have really addressed some important things this year - like failing as a Christian and how that affects our standing with God. Caleb mentioned this the other day and said it had been on his mind and then you spoke about it. How exciting to see the Spirit leading you to minister to his little heart!

"Perhaps personal negative experiences contribute to a feeling that those who focus on training children in habits may start well, but end up judgmental and controlling." Totally agree with this statement. And our kids feel that judgement and control.

"God-given authority is still not being stewarded well." - I'm glad you said this. It is a struggle as a parent to take hold of the mantle of leadership given to me and wield it carefully, appropriately, with love, grace, firmness and truth.

"no training can be sustained without a proper goal in view." Wow. I needed to hear this. Thanks for these thoughts!

Amen. As we deal with matters of the heart, may the Lord give our children an appetite to feast on good things from above.

And while it is a wonderful place to be for you, YOU are a significant part of making it a wonderful place to be for the children. Thank you for your daily provision of kindness, consistency, and firmness; humor and creating a safe, intellectually stimulating, and beautiful environment. The blessings God is providing through you will no doubt have ripples into eternity!

What a beautiful article, Jason. I've enjoyed seeing the fruit of this pursuit of virtue in the life of my son this year. I'm so thankful he is in your class and being encouraged in these ways. I loved his essay on mercy and how he is seeing the differences between mercy, love and kindness, and how he is finding pictures of it during Bible time (with David showing mercy to Saul) and in literature (with The Prince & the Pauper). Thank you for your shepherding of our children's hearts. It's a joy to partner with you.
